Tom Rudolph, director of the
Haverford Middle School Jazz ensemble graduated with a double degree in
Music Performance and Education from Philadelphia College of the
Performing Arts in 1977 where he studied with Samuel Krauss. He earned
a Masters of Music Education degree at West Chester University in 1981
and an Education Doctorate from Widener University in 1993. He is
Director of Music for the School District of Haverford Township and an
adjunct assistant professor of music at the University of the Arts. He
is also a member of the classical group Gaudeamus and has recorded
three compact discs with the ensemble.Dr. Rudolph is one of the seminal
people in music education and technology. He began his work as a
clinician and workshop leader in the field in 1982. He has authored
seven books including: Teaching Music With Technology,
currently in its third printing; Finale An Easy Guide to Music
Notation, Recording in the Digital World, Finding Funds
for Music Technology, and he was one of 4 co-authors of the TI:ME
publication: Technology Strategies for Music Education. He has
published more than 30 articles on music technology that have appeared
in the Music Educators Journal, The Instrumentalist, Jazz Educator
Journal, and Downbeat magazine. He has consulted with dozens of
companies including Apple Computer, Korg, SoundTree, Roland, Bose
Corporation and many others. In 1995, he was one of the founders of the
Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) and is now serving as
the President of this organization. Since 1983, Rudolph has taught
workshops in music technology at 17 institutions of higher learning and
has trained over 3,500 music educators in his acclaimed workshops. He
presented the music technology keynote address for the MENC Eastern
Music Technology pre-conference in 1996, the Massachusetts State
Conference in 1999, the MENC/TI:ME National Conference in 2002, and the
Missouri State Conference in 2003.

Drew
Shanefield,director of the Haverford High School Jazz Ensemble,
is in his ninth year as an instrumental music specialist for the School
District of Haverford Township. In addition to his duties at Haverford,
he was recently appointed director of the Swathmore College Jazz
Ensemble. Mr. Shanefield graduated magna cum laude from New York
University in 1992. He received his Masters in Music Education degree
from Queens College and a Masters in Music Performance from West
Chester University. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at
Widener University. He serves as program coordinator for the Bluecoats
Drum and Bugle Corps and is a programming consultant for the Cavaliers
Drum and Bugle Corps. Drew maintains a busy schedule as an
arranger/composer for many bands across the country and
internationally. He is a music adjudicator for Bands of America and the
United States Scholastic Band Association. Drew Shanefield is a Yamaha
performing artist and clinician. |
Michael
Fein teaches music technology electives and the Jazz Lab Band at
Haverford High School. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education
with a Jazz Concentration from Rutgers University where he studied
saxophone with Ralph Bowen and clarinet with Anthony Pasquale. He
performed with the Rutgers Big Band, Jazz Combos, Wind Ensemble,
Clarinet Ensemble, and Salsa Band. Michael currently attends
graduate school at Rowan University working towards a Masters in Jazz
Saxophone Performance and studying with baritone saxophone legend,
Denis DiBlasio. With frequent performances throughout the
Philadelphia region, Michael’s resume includes lead alto work with the
great Ray Charles. |
